This past weekend, a little girl came over for dinner with her family. It had been a long day at work and I was tired. I'm just getting to the point where I'm enjoying interaction with children again. I wasn't particularly looking forward to this one. This little six year old had brought her own plastic food with her and was taking orders and doling it out to everyone at the table as we sat around and talked. She came to me and asked me if I would prefer corn on the cob or a piece of pie.

I asked for pie.

She procured a very small piece of colored construction paper. It was not in the shape of pie, but it was very clearly pie.

"What kind is it?" I asked.

She thought for a long moment.

"Your favorite," she said.

Made my day.
